Carrie Lyman (b. 1986) is a Korean-American adoptee who came to the United States as an infant. Raised in Upstate New York between the contrast of suburbia and family farming, she went on to study Art + Design at Syracuse University (BFA) before moving to New York City where she lived for more than a decade working as an art director + designer in the world of luxury, fashion and beauty for brands like David Yurman, L’Oréal, Marc Jacobs, Henri Bendel, and more.
During her time in New York City she launched Lyman Creative Co., a digital illustration + art licensing brand inspired by her love of travel and color. She's sold thousands of prints, patterns and products through dozens of retailers, from Nordstrom to Urban Outfitters.
In 2021, she left New York City and spent a year as a “digital nomad” traveling around the world before falling in love with Mexico City and London.
In 2025, she felt the pull to remove herself from the screen and technology and to return her art practice to paper. She began her abstract oil pastel journey exploring the concepts of feelings through abstraction.
Her work focuses on rewiring feelings through art, using oil pastel to explore the illusions, movements, and internal tides of daily life.
Inspired by seeing how the brain shifts and reconnects as it forms new neural pathways, she draws on those organic forms to shape the gestures in her work. Each piece captures a fleeting moment of clarity, holding a feeling just before it dissolves and giving it shape in abstract form.
Carrie now splits her time between New York, Mexico City and London.
